New iPhone 12: Should I wait for the first 5G iPhone?

With 22nd June just being a few days away, the virtual, developers conference WWDC is approaching fast. An obvious excitement for Apple lovers, loyalists and even other mobile phone users are excited for this fall with the potential launch of the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Max. These names however have not been officially declared yet, but it’s the general assumption for now which is better than nothing.

With the COVID-19 Pandemic looming over everyone’s heads, a lot of uncertainty is going about the release of the iPhone 12. These rumors will circulate till the official launch that’s for sure, which could be in the fall of this year. As time unfolds, we’ll have a clearer picture. For the moment, some rumors that have been floating around are given below:

The Design

There’s currently a speculation in the market that the design of the new iPhone will be more or less similar to the iPhone 11 from last year except with the difference of bowed edges. Apple has mostly incorporated design changes with every iPhone released in the market. However, another speculation states that the iPhone 12 is going to be a completely new and revamped design with the incorporation of flat edges. Time will tell which claim turns out to be true

The Navy Blue Color

With the introduction of the Midnight Green color in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro Max last year (which sold very well in the market too), a new colour is rumored to come in with the iPhone 12; Navy Blue! Even Shutterstock forecasted a Phantom blue color for 2020. So who knows, we might be in for a treat.

The introduction of 5G

One of the most reliable speculations in the market right now is the introduction of 5G with the new iPhone. Why do we think it’ll be reliable? Because Apple’s main competitor, Samsung just released the Galaxy S20 Phones and other 5G handsets too. It’s safe to say that Apple will try to keep up with the competition.

The Display sizes and the Specs

Another of the more reliable rumors out there are the Display sizes with possible variations of a 5.4 inch screen for one of the iPhones 12s and 6.7 inches for the 12 Pro Max. Apart from that the screen will also have a 120Hz refresh rate giving it even a smoother feel when you scroll through webpages or apps. The 12 Pro might even have a ProMotion Display.

The Price

On the launch of the iPhone 11, it was introduced at a base model price of $699, $50 cheaper than the iPhone XR (2018) at the time. This trend for the moment is expected to continue. A tech analyst reported the pricing to be $649 for the iPhone 12, $999 for the iPhone 12 Pro and $1,099 for the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Again, Time will tell how well this theory is in the water.

Now moving onto the comparisons, one might think if they’re better off waiting for the iPhone 12 or should they just get the iPhone 11. Allow us to shed some light on that subject. Even though not much is known about the iPhone 12 at this point, the rumors should help us make a valid comparison.

  • For starters, you get flatter sides in the iPhone 12 as opposed to the iPhone 11 which is rounder.
  • If you want something unique in terms of color, you get the Navy/Deep blue color with the iPhone 12. With the iPhone 11, you get Midnight Green. Even though it’s not fully clear yet whether the blue will be for the iPhone 12 or the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Still, one can always hope for the iPhone 12 to have it.
  • The iPhone 12 models are rumored to have OLED displays as opposed to the LCD displays in the iPhone 11. This means wider viewing angles and better colors for the iPhone 12.
  • The iPhone 12 is also reported to have better specs with the A14 Bionic processor which claims a performance similar to the MacBook Pro. It’s also reported that the iPhone 12 will have a 5nm chip as opposed to the 7nm chip for the A13 Bionic.
  • The camera for the iPhone 12 is reported to be better than that of the iPhone 11. Also, seeing as how Augmented Reality is the next big thing, the camera in the iPhone 12 also offers better performance for iPhone AR apps.
  • The iPhone isn’t exactly known for a very long lasting battery with the iPhone 11 reported to having a 3100 mAh battery. However, rumor has it that due to tweaked circuitry of the phone, the battery is expected to be more powerful for the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max as opposed to the iPhone 11.
  • With the iPhone 12, you also get 5G, as compared to 4G LTE with the iPhone 11.

The next question that’s probably coming to your mind is whether you should buy a 5G iPhone right now. Is it really necessary? Maybe you don’t need the 5G right? Well below we shed some light on the topic of getting a 5G iPhone in 2020. Again, we’re hopeful this will help you come to a decision.

5G is no longer a thing of the future but rather of the present. Even though the 5G networking is currently focused more on coverage rather than speed here are some of the pros and cons:

Pros:

  • This is probably the most obvious. 5G is faster than the 4G LTE. With networks on millimeter-wave technology, speeds have topped up to 1 Gbps. That’s a whole lot compared to 4G you have to admit.
  • 5G at the moment is becoming more and more widespread in terms of coverage. More and more companies are deploying 5G towers with every passing day. As mentioned earlier, companies are presently more focused on the coverage rather than the speed and we think that’s an excellent strategy.
  • Since it’s the latest thing right now, you can expect 5G to stay for a while until technology advances again and makes it obsolete. If you were to buy the iPhone 12, you’ll be able to take advantage of it in the coming years too!

Cons:

  • As already mentioned, companies are currently working to expand the area of coverage for 5G. However, it’s going to be a while till there’s more widespread coverage. Some cities have it whereas some cities don’t. and it’ll be a while till 5G towers can be implemented on a wider scale.

The next thing you want to do is probably compare some 5G phones from other brands. Well look no further because we have that covered for you too. Here are some of the latest 5G phones in the market right now.
