Fans of the design of the iPhone XS and XS Max can expect more of the same with the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, with the notable exception of a new, square-shaped camera array. A few reports have also suggested that the back panel of the iPhone 11 will have a “frosted glass” texture to it, and will be available in Green and Lavender (which will replace Blue and Coral).

Both the baseline iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max will be getting a third, wide-angle camera, while the iPhone 11 will be upgrading to two cameras from the XR’s one. The three-camera array will be arranged in a square formation which, whether you love it or hate it, is a bold new design direction.

The iPhone 11’s front-facing camera will also be receiving an upgrade, with the addition of 120 fps slo-mo video re-cording and a reported bump from 7MP to 12 MP.

The iPhone 11 is expected to introduce a new feature called “bilateral wireless charging”, not dissimilar from Samsung’s Wireless PowerShare. This new feature will allow you to use the back of your iPhone as a wireless charger for things like your AirPods or even another iPhone.

While the remored switch from Lightning to USB-C seems increasingly unlikely, there are more recent rumors that the iPhone 11 will ship with an 18W adapter and a USB-C to Lightning cable. If true, it would be a welcome and long-awaited upgrade from the 5W USB-A setup that came with past iPhone.

An understated but extremely important upgrade to the iPhone 11 will be the new A13 processor, developed in-house by Apple with TSMC. Using a cutting edge “7nm+” process, the A13 will be a more efficient and more powerful chip than the A12X, which will translate into much better performance across the board, especially in on-board AI.
